Safety & Environmental Coordinator
The safety & environmental coordinator's primary responsibilities are to lead and coordinate the development and implementation of the Cooperative's comprehensive training, safety and environmental programs. Identify and define the roles and responsibilities of all employees in ensuring their own safety and well-being and that of their coworkers. Enhance safety awareness to identify hazards and minimize injury and property damage. Identify and define the roles and responsibilities of all employees in ensuring compliance with all applicable environmental regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Lead, develop, and maintain a comprehensive safety program that ensures safe working conditions and practices.
- Research, develop, maintain and coordinate all environmental compliance programs of the Cooperative.
- Review and coordinate the compliance of the Cooperative’s Standard Operating Guide (SOG) and provide updates and corrections as needed.
- Provide and/or coordinate training to Cooperative employees as required by environmental and safety regulations and in accordance with the Cooperative’s comprehensive safety program.
- Plan and ensure safety meetings are attended and well documented. Coordinate and lead Employee Safety Team committee meetings to review, evaluate, and develop new and existing strategies and programs to improve the safety performance of the Cooperative.
- Provide guidance and support to Cooperative employees for safety accreditation through the Rural Electric Safety Achievement Program (RESAP).
- Conduct safety inspections on equipment, facilities and job sites. Conduct regular field and plant visits to observe work practices during active construction and maintenance projects. Prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventative measures to ensure and/or enhance employee safety.
- Periodically review safety and environmental regulations and industry best practices. Work with representatives from other organizations like the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives, Quad States Instructors, Federated Rural Electric Insurance Exchange, and NRECA to recognize emerging risks and issues. Recommend safety and environmental practices and policies for the Cooperative to mitigate these risks and issues.
- Be knowledgeable of upcoming new and existing environmental regulations and corresponding reporting requirements for Corn Belt’s locations including the owned and operated power plants including air, water, and coal ash regulations.
- Research, develop and apply safety and environmental policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations including but not limited to IOSHA, OSHA, EPA, DOT, FMCSA.

Experience:
A minimum of five years’ relevant work experience is required, electric cooperative or electric utility experience is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Education:
An occupational or industrial health and safety or related degree is required.
